The Ethernal Cubs story: a star fell on the jungle, its light scattered into 3,333 sealed Orbs, and the cubs who drew close were changed.

The Ethernal Cubs story begins with a star that fell on the jungle. Its light scattered into 3,333 sealed Orbs, the young lions who crept close to the crater were changed by it, and four years later not one of those Orbs has been opened.
That is the whole premise, and it is also exactly what you mint. On Thursday 29 October 2026 at 14:00 UTC, those 3,333 Orbs go out as a free mint on Robinhood Chain. This post gathers the lore we have told so far, on the home page and in the numbered chapters on X, in one place, and explains why the story is built the way it is. It is atmosphere only. What is inside an Orb stays sealed until the reveal on 22 October.
The origin is told in three short beats on the Ethernal Cubs home page, under the heading "The night the sky broke". We checked the live copy on 13 October 2026, and this is how it runs.
That is why the site's headline reads "Born of a fallen star", and why every Cub you will see carries the same light in its markings. The young ones went toward the strange thing in the dark. The old ones held back. Everything else in the world grows out of that one choice.
The light did not stay in one place. One of the early chapters on X put it simply: the light scattered, but it did not scatter forever, and when the dust settled the jungle had counted them. 3,333 Orbs, and that is all there will ever be.
That number is not a flourish. It is the real supply of the collection. There will be 3,333 Orbs minted, no more, and the mint price is zero. You pay only Robinhood Chain gas, which the official How to Play page puts at roughly a cent. If you want the mechanics rather than the myth, our post on how the free mint works covers them step by step.
The light scattered. But it didn't scatter forever. When the dust settled, the jungle had counted them.
Chapter 9 picked the story up from there: they did not all land the same. Five kinds came down, and the jungle already had names for them.
Each one carries a lion's head across the join, the clasp that has kept it closed all this time. The lion is the lock, on all five of them. You do not choose which kind you get. Every Orb mints sealed, and the tier only shows itself when it is opened. That is why the story keeps returning to the same line: nobody has opened one. In Chapter 10 the jungle said that part matters more than anything else about them.
What the five tiers mean in practice, and what comes out of each, is part of the reveal. We are holding it back on purpose until Thursday 22 October.
Because opening it is your job. The lore is not decoration bolted onto a collection. It describes what the product does. In Ethernal Cubs you do not mint a finished picture of a lion. You mint a sealed Orb, and you are the one who opens it on the site and builds a Cub from what you find. The four quiet years in the story are the time between the star falling and the moment holders finally break the seals.
Chapter 8 described that wait as a particular kind of silence: the jungle has been quiet since they landed, not the quiet of nothing happening, the other kind. Anyone who has held something sealed and wondered about it knows that feeling. That is the mood we want to stay with until the mint.
Leo is the first Cub we showed the world, and the face of the project. He is a blue cub with glowing cyan lines running through his body, the same light the home page describes sinking into the cubs' fur. In the teaser films he appears out of the light of the crater, and his signature pose is a single glowing Orb resting above his open palm.
Leo is also the jungle's mascot in the everyday sense. When the team travelled in early October, the post on X said Leo stayed home with the Orbs. He turns up in the reaction clips there most mornings, and he never gives anything away. If you want to know who to ask about the Orbs, it is Leo. He will not tell you either.
The fallen star gives every part of Ethernal Cubs a reason to exist. It is a collection built around customizability: you open an Orb, assemble your own Cub and keep rebuilding it. Cubs battle each other, and the community plays together in games, quizzes and events. The How to Play guide walks through all five steps.
The light that chose the cubs is also where the AI side of the project comes from. Each Cub will become an AI companion you can talk to, with Power Orbs that will extend what it can remember and do. The chat is coming soon, and the story is how we explain it: the cubs did not just survive the star, they took some of its intelligence with them.
The story is also unfinished on purpose. Chapters arrive on X a few times a week, and the next big chapter lands with the reveal on 22 October. Following the story is part of how the community has been earning places on the whitelist board.

Yes. You mint one of those 3,333 sealed Orbs, on OpenSea, in the ethernal-cubs-orbs collection. The mint opens Thursday 29 October 2026 at 14:00 UTC and runs until Thursday 5 November. The price is zero, plus gas.
On X at @ethernalcubs, where each chapter is numbered, and in the Discord at discord.gg/ethernalcubs. The team never sends you a DM first, so any message offering you an early Orb is not us.
Earn a spot on the whitelist board before it closes on Wednesday 28 October 2026 at 23:59 UTC. Our whitelist guide lists every route, and how the free mint works covers the rest.
The seals have held for four years. They have about two weeks left. Start at ethernalcubs.ai.
